Calgary is situated in the Western Canada
Sedimentary Basin where for the last 80 years
conventional oil and gas reserves built Canada’s
energy storehouse. Today, one of the
unconventional resources, oil sands, found in
provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan, contains
the largest known reserve of bitumen in the
world – an estimated 1.7 to 2.5 trillion
barrels. About 10% of this is estimated to be
recoverable with current technology.
